So where are American poker players playing now?
After the big upset in April when Stars, Tilt, UB and Absolute all stopped accepting American players, there was a further after-shock in May when the DOJ went after other US facing gambling sites which included Doyles Room and True Poker, both of which are on the small Yatahay Poker Network.
Thankfully for US players, the rooms on the Everleaf Gaming Network are continuing to accept, even welcome, Americans.
The leading room on this network seems to be Luvin Poker. They are actively recruiting homeless American players to their site and have an initial deposit bonus of up to $1,000 at 200% match to entice them.
You can check out Luvin Poker here.
The number of players on this network is small, but has been growing rapidly (not surprisingly) since Black Friday last April.
US Poker news
I was just thinking that it was high time to ramp up the posting of interesting poker related stuff on this so called blog when all of a sudden the FBI goes and takes the top poker rooms out of the US market.
Just like that, with guns blazing and warrants flying they… uh… closed some web sites. Yes, they took down the main sites belonging to Stars, Tilt, UB and AP.
For a little while there no one knew what was really going on. As it all went down on a Friday there was little time to get things sorted out. Of course, it was only the web sites that were taken down, not the poker software servers, so if you didn’t read any news you could be playing on any of those sites while all that went down and be non the wiser.
Until the poker rooms kicked all the Americans out that is.
And that is what they did do, well Stars and Tilt at first anyway.
So now we have the pitiful sight of thousands of US poker players wandering the streets with nothing to do and nowhere to go.
Well, no, not really. The resurgence in home games is only just beginning, and surely some real life casinos are going to see a huge increase in action at their hold’em tables.
It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in the coming weeks and months.

More mildly interesting poker stuff
So it seems that the reefer poker operation has been or is being bought out by another poker site, FeltStars. That is a way better name anyway.
This site is on the Merge network too. Not sure what will actually happen with the existing players’ accounts, but I assume that their bankrolls will be transferred over to the new site and they can continue playing there on their old account details.
Remains to be seen, but that is what usually happens in a properly managed merger anyway.
The up side is that now I have a poker blog that kinda makes no sense on it’s own now that I think about it. But I’ll stick with it. In time, when the poker site is totally forgotten this will be a cool name for a poker blog again…

Reefer Poker
So I thought I would have a lot more to say on this blog than I have managed in the last month. Nothing worthwhile occurred to me so far.
I did look into Reefer poker though. It’s a site on the Merge Network, which is a smaller network with a good few rooms (or skins) on it. The traffic is low but the software is pretty nice with some unusual features.
The Reefer skin says it is the only poker site dedicated to pot, which I suppose is loosely connected to poker…
The site is nice enough, maybe a bit off-putting to the straighter poker player, but so far I haven’t gotten much of a response to my email to support.
I should say that whenever I am checking out a new poker room, or casino, that I might want to play at I always email support with whatever question I can come up with.
It’s a good way to get a feel for the level of support you can expect if you need it further down the road with something that is important.
Often I will pass on joining a new site if I feel that the level of support offered is not going to cut it for me.
So I’ll do some more digging around and see what I can come up with.

ReeferPokerBlog
Thanks for visiting this new poker blog. Surprisingly, this site has, so far, nothing to say about the Reefer Poker room. Although I suppose that I will look into that room now and maybe write something about it in the future.
I simply liked the name for personal reasons, not realizing that there actually is a poker room of that name. Pretty silly of me really.
Anyways, this is a poker blog, which is what I wanted in a site name. The reefer bit was just a cool extra.
So this is a poker blog – a blog about poker. Like the world really needs another one of those. Maybe not, but I think I do.
And here it is.
